On July 20, 2006, Eleven plaintiffs filed lawsuits in Macon County Circuit Court against various manufacturers and distributors of chemical solvents, including the toxic solvent benzene. Also named in the lawsuit was the plaintiffs' former employer Bridgestone/Firestone. The Complaint alleges that Firestone knew of the workers' risk of developing cancer when exposed to benzene, yet it failed to warn or protect the employees from this danger. The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages for the former employees.
